We changed our name! A New Era Begins.

Welcome to FREER Records

Our Mission: To build the careers of prison-impacted artists so their work is widely heard, uncensored, and upholding of their humanity

Our Vision: A world where walls cannot confine art.

As we kick off 2024, we are invigorated, grateful and eager to step into a new era. Before we do, it’s important for us to celebrate the decade of hard work that has culminated to this very moment. Die Jim Crow was a revolutionary idea; an album about the Black experience of mass incarceration in America. This story - as important as it was theoretically… didn’t exist. Die Jim Crow Records taught us that every story is unique, every perspective equally valued, and the impact of mass incarceration has decimated countless generations of families across this country. ❤️‍🩹

DJC has been a home for outcast creatives who have something to say. We may not ALWAYS agree with what’s being said, but it always remains a safe place to share. It has been a healing center; where people’s art has gone from an outlet of trauma to one of joy and love and that is a beautiful process to watch. It has been a boot camp; transitioning intelligent folks from the streets to the professional world, holding each other accountable, while lifting one another up. We don't take credit for the work our artists have done personally, but we take immense pride and are honored to not only be a part of, but on the right side of it 👑

It has been a form of liberty for our incarcerated artists. Some who will NEVER be released. We work with some phenomenal talents who will spend every single day of their natural lives behind the wall. DJC opened the gates; the gates of creativity & imagination, ingenuity & wonder… their craft has released them from mental captivity. 💡💡💡

As we say goodbye to Die Jim Crow after ten years, we want to thank this entity for getting us FREER. We couldn’t have gotten closer to liberation without the lessons, the failures, the heartbreaks, the triumphs, THE ART, THE ART, THE ART‼️ Thank you to our musicians, storytellers, visual artists, engineers, staff, donors, and supporters. Together we make the DJC family the vibrant community it is. 🌹 It has been quite the ride… we’re still headed for the same destination, just a different route... To FREER. 💯

We may never be free. We can always be FREER.

Effective today, January 3rd, 2024, we are now FREER Records.

This era will produce more genres, introduce more artists, and become the high-quality multimedia platform we are destined to be.
